Our area of Malawi was hit by Cyclone Idai on March 15th. Damage was done to the roofs and walls of some of the villages we support. Chinthowa Development Trust is the only charity working in the Khongoni region, an area about the size of Warwickshire! We have already sent emergency funding to Chinthowa to help with the re-building of the houses, and hopefully we will be able to send more in two weeks time. As yet we do not know what damage the cyclone has done to the crops. Normally the villagers would be harvesting the crops at this time, lets hope that not too much damage has been done. Our philosophy is to help the people of Malawi to help themselves through education but when natural disasters happen like Cyclone Idai, we feel we have to step up and help.
